Neonatal Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6 - Permanent - Various hours

Would you like to work within Integrated Care Organisation where Community and Hospital Services have joined together to provide a seamless service to protect and care for babies, and their families, from birth throughout admission and post discharge.
We have a well-established Neonatal team providing care from 27 weeks gestation. The unit capacity comprises of 1 IC, 3 HD and 9 SC cots. In line with the North West Neonatal Operation Delivery Network, we provide short term Intensive Care for up to 48 hours. We have access to 3 (Tertiary) Level III Neonatal Units, within Greater Manchester, fully supported by Connect North West.
We strive to continue to develop our unit and service, to meet the constantly developing local and national requirements and therefore are looking for experienced and committed Band 6 neonatal nurses to join our fantastic team of nurses.
You should be able to demonstrate excellent clinical, communication and organisational skills, the ability to work on your own initiative, work within & lead teams, and work well under pressure. You will also be an active mentor and have experience of teaching and assessing practice.
You will need to possess QIS, mentorship, NLS and demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development along with suitable and relevant experience at Band 5.
Main duties of the job
- To act as the shift co-ordinator providing an experienced level of clinical and managerial leadership.
- To provide support to the shift co-ordinator when required.
- To provide specialist clinical input into the neonatal team.
- To provide day to day supervision of staff and students supporting their clinical educational needs.
- To participate in the development of neonatal services, providing a positive role model to colleagues.
- To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

Professional/Clinical
- Ensure the delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and neonatal clinical advice in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Work within clinical governance systems, demonstrating accountability for own practice.
- Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct competently developing and undertaking expanded roles, and assess the competence of other clinical staff to do so.
- Continuously develop own knowledge and skills and maintain skills relevant to the role.
- In accordance with agreed Neonatal Clinical Guidelines use own clinical judgement to analyse and interpret clinical indicators to initiate appropriate nursing interventions prior to medical / advanced nursing input being available.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records in accordance with the NMC Standards for Records and Record Keeping.
- Contribute to the development of neonatal protocols and guidelines, proposing practice changes as appropriate.
- Ensure adherence to the Trust Medicines Policy and the NMC Standards for the Administration of Medicines including administration of medicines utilising appropriate Patient Group Directions to expedite treatment
- Participate in audits of practice and clinical effectiveness in accordance with local, Divisional and National audit plans.
- Actively manage risk within the clinical area in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and the Trust Risk management policy.

Human Resource Management
- Provide day to day supervision of the department team, co-ordinating shifts and allocating work appropriately.
- Support the Clinical Manager and Matron in the provision of staff development in accordance with service and professional development needs.
- Participate in the induction and preceptorship for newly deployed/ newly qualified staff.
- Provide mentoring and support to students and learners.
- Support the Clinical Manager and Matron in applying the Trusts Attendance Management policy.
