Job summary

Specialty Doctor - 2.25 sessions per week - Fixed term 12 months

An opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor post in Oral Surgery to cover 1 year maternity leave. The post is for a Thursday in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Out-Patient Department to work with a team of Maxillofacial Surgeons and an Associate Specialist in Oral surgery.

We would Welcome applications from an enthusiastic team player with at least 4 years experience of minor oral surgery procedures.

Main duties of the job

THE POST:

The successful applicant will be expected to participate actively in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients. The main role for the right candidate would be to run oral surgery consultation clinics, minor operation sessions under local anaesthetic.

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this post is to provide a Specialty Doctor post within the Trust's Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service. The post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.

  • To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service.
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with the contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's service plans.

  • Patient safety to be actively involved in delivering high quality patient centred care and contributing to safety and quality initiatives and improvement projects being undertaken in the trust.
  • Audit and QI active participation or initiation of departmental QI and national audits are strongly encouraged. All projects are approved by the Clinical Effectiveness and Audit Committee.
  • To promote evidence-based practice. To respond appropriately to NICE guidance. To change own and others clinical practice in response to new clinical developments.
  • To be involved in risk management and quality assurance.
  • To remain up to date and engaged in CME/CPD as per GDC guidelines.
  • To respond appropriately to complaints and critical incidents.
  • The postholder will be expected to take part in developing clinical audit in accordance with agreed Directorate and Corporate Clinical Governance programmes.
  • Clinical Governance Staff are accountable and responsible for maintaining their own clinical competence and acting within their competence. In addition, they must comply with requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision. To contribute to patient safety and governance processes including WHO checklist audits, team brief audits and clinical lead for oral surgery service with the support of the maxillofacial consultants.
  • To undertake all work in accordance with Tameside General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust procedures and operating policies.
  • To attend accredited conferences and meetings to update personal level of clinical practice, teaching and management skills in line with CME/CPD requirements.
  • To participate in the Trusts annual Appraisal process and to respond to any identified development needs.
  • To adhere to the Trusts Adverse Clinical Incident Policy.
  • Administration to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.
