Job summary

Specialty Doctor - AMU 10PA's - Permanent

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our expanding and dynamic Acute Medicine team. We are advertising 1 Specialty Doctor positions in Acute Medicine both full-time post, based on 10 PA's a week.

You will be expected to carry out ward rounds/reviews on the acute assessment units/SDEC when on duty and your periods of duty will be defined in accordance with the rota prepared by the Rota Coordinator/Consultant lead.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the post is to ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to each individual patient. The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to provide clinical cover for inpatient care and ambulatory care, supporting the clinical management of the patients and helping junior members of the team. Whilst on shift, the post holder would work on the Acute Medical Unit with other members of that team.

You will have day-to-day supervisory responsibility for patients on the ward, will cover inpatients under consultant supervision, take part in consultant ward rounds and will ensure that case notes are properly completed, drug prescriptions are regularly reviewed, appropriate investigations are carried out and the results acted upon and made available for consultant ward rounds.

There is time specifically set aside for academic work education, audit and management development - this will form 1 session per week for supporting professional activities. The post holder will be allocated a Mentor/Clinical supervisor from amongst the Consultant body and there is a robust system of appraisal.

In order to be considered applicants must have FULL GMC Registration, Advanced Life Support and have previous experience of working in the NHS or equivalent.

Participation in some out of hours work will be expected and this will be re numerated as per terms and conditions set out in the specialty doctor contract.

  • Previous experience at ST3 level in Elderly Medicine, Cardiology or Accident and Emergency
