Job summary

Staff Nurse- Band 5 Part Time - Permanent- 30 Hours per week

Clinic areas open daily from 08:00 until 18:00 with Ad Hoc evening clinics 18:00 - 20:00, and 8.30am to 4pm on Saturdays and some Sundays , each speciality, prepares its area for that session. The Outpatients Department provides a service for patients who have been referred for an expert medical opinion and or treatment for medical conditions, or are being reviewed after initial appointments or treatment/surgery. Our philosophy within the Outpatient Department is to treat everyone with dignity and respect with patients being given the appropriate information, treatment and support during their visit. We aim to provide a welcoming and safe environment to all our patients on arrival to the department. Our Nursing team includes One Unit Manager, three Sisters, experienced senior staff nurses, staff nurses and Healthcare assistants. We are an enthusiastic and motivated team and we strive to provide a welcoming and quality service for all patients.

Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY:

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within sphere of responsibility
  • To assist in the management and organisation of work in the clinical area
  • To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
  • Will cover all OPD areas, but predominantly the orthopeadic fracture clinic in adults and paediatrics.
  • Have possession of BOA casting certificate or equivalent, or be willing to undertake this.

Provide the delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Ensure all records relating to patient care are accurate, clear, concise, legible and in accordance with the NMC Standards for Records and Record Keeping.

Actively assess and manage risk within the clinical area.

Ensure adherence to the Trust Medicines Policy and the NMC Standards for the Administration of Medicines.

Participate in audits of practice.

Participate in the teaching and supervision of other members of staff under the direction of the ward manager.

Support the Clinical Governance systems to delivering high quality of care.

Assist the ward manager in achieving budget control and order supplies when necessary.

Participate in personal development reviews for junior staff.

Working in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct. Competently undertake expanded role.

Participate in benchmarking activity within the Clinical Area and implement outcome from Essence of Care.

ADMINISTRATIVE / MANAGERIAL:

Take charge of a shift and ensure organisation and delivery of patient care.

Adhere to the Bed Management policy and adherence to the Admission and Discharge policies.

Support the ward manager in effective Resource Management.

Participate in ensuring the delivery of the Trust targets

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT:

Participate in the training and development of student nurses and other staff as appropriate.

Participate in clinical supervision for junior staff in accordance with Trust policy.

Assist the ward manager to ensure that there is appropriate allocation of staff duties.

Ensure communication of information of a complex nature is given sensitivity and confidentiality is maintained.
