If the answer to these questions is yes, then we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join the North West Ambulance Service Corporate Affairs Directorate as one of our new Violence Prevention and Reduction Specialist Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

North West Ambulance Services are developing a new team focused on violence prevention and reduction aligned to the NHS England National Security Standard. These roles will provide specialist advice to managers and staff on a wide range of violence prevention and reduction matters, as required, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation for the Trust to maintain the highest standards of security and safe working for staff and patients.

Ability to travel across the Northwest will be required as part of this post.

About us

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Able to prioritise effectively dealing with competing demands.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence persuasively to command confidence and respect from stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving, improvement and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to interpret statistics to identify trends in incident records.
  • Be computer literate and able use appropriate windows packages and risk management software (e.g. DCIQ).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with situations in a sensitive manner.

  • Be a Chartered Member of IOSH and / or hold qualified local security management specialist qualifications or equivalent or demonstrate a commitment to study towards the qualifications during the first two years in post.

  • Sound experience of providing VPR advice within the NHS or healthcare setting or within a multi-site / multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • Experience in completing complex risk assessments.
  • Experience of incident and claims investigation.
  • Experience in applying changes in H&S legislation.
  • Experience of carrying out inspections and audits.
  • Experience of working within a team.
