Job summary

We are keen to recruit an inspirational individual, to the position of Paediatric Governance Lead within our Acute Paediatric service.

The post holder will provide strong wide integrated governance leadership on safety, quality & risk management across children's services.

The post holder will be working as part of the divisional governance team. This is a key role in providing assurance that our services are compliant and deliver high quality care to our patients.

The postholder will lead and be responsible for efficient clinical governance processes working closely with the Divisional Governance lead and with service managers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with robust governance process such as incident reporting, risk, and quality improvement to ensure the responsiveness of our services.

The post is fixed term/secondment offered for 12 months, subject to potential extension, and is offered at full time, part time may be considered.

Main duties of the job

As the Lead for paediatric governance, the postholder, within the framework of Clinical Governance, will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team in delivering the quality, governance and safety strategy in Children's services and ensure that policies and procedures are in place to enable risks to be identified and managed appropriately. Main responsibilities include, but are not limited, to;

  • The post holder will implement risk management.
  • strategy which supports internal reporting and communication across the Trust and external agencies.
  • They will be instrumental in monitoring any risk issues and promote and encourage safety awareness.
  • They will be using learning from incidents to inform and develop clinical practices and communicate the learning across Children's services.

Job responsibilities

The role requirements include, but are not limited to; Facilitate risk management, clinical audit, and clinical effectiveness programs, triangulating with patient experience data. Encourage staff and clinician engagement in key clinical governance processes and programs, extending to relationship building within the Division and the Trust. The post holder will work closely with the paediatric divisional teams in monitoring and evaluating compliance in Paediatrics against national and local guidelines and standards. The post holder will evaluate aspects of patient care through audit and monitor progress against identified action plans and will provide a continuum of direct support to the paediatric divisional teams with regards to external assessment processes e.g. CQC inspections. As a member of the Child Health Governance Team the post holder will work with all grades of staff on all hospital sites to implement changes into clinical practice with the aim to improve safety. Education and training in relation to risk management, patient safety, clinical audit, and continuous quality improvement. Liaise with the Director of Clinical Improvement to assist in identifying the key education requirements for Clinical Standards, Audit and Effectiveness requirements and assist with delivering these programmes. Assist the Division to identify and define the information needs required to monitor clinical effectiveness, patient safety and quality outputs of the service provided. Support the Division to develop robust system and process in relation to clinical governance and quality (remaining accountable to the Head of Clinical Governance). Develop and maintain inter-divisional and Patient Safety Team relationships to ensure that incidents are investigated in accordance with the relevant Trust policy and in alignment with Trust values. Co-ordinate and facilitate investigations in collaboration with the lead investigators, including assisting with the writing of investigation reports, ensuring adherence to deadlines. Ensure that actions arising from incident investigations are completed within the given timeline and that learning is shared across the organisation where appropriate. Undertake these functions under the line management of the paediatric matron and Head of Clinical Governance.
