Diabetes Maternity Support Worker

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our maternity service for an enthusiastic diabetes maternity support worker to support the wider multi-disciplinary team with ensuring standards for the care of pregnant women with diabetes. We are looking for a clinically sound, motivated and innovative support worker who wishes to support the band 7 Diabetes midwife in providing a quality service that is responsive to the changing needs of women and their families. In this role you will be expected to independently run glucose tolerance test clinics and teach women blood sugar monitoring under the supervision of the midwife.

You must have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, have excellent interpersonal and IT skills.
Main duties of the job
With births of around 6000 per year, Bolton is the 'Supercentre' for the North West, providing high quality compassionate care to the women of Bolton, Bury, Salford and beyond.

1. The Maternity Support Worker is a key member of our multidisciplinary team. With her/his specialist knowledge she/he will support midwives in providing an insightful woman centred service based on current evidence and research.
2. The post holder will provide teaching of blood sugar monitoring and healthy eating using current knowledge gained from training, and will ensure that women their babies, and families are cared for in a safe environment and that privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
3. The post holder will provide direct care and provide verbal and written documentation/record keeping.
4. To actively seek the views of women and their families on the understanding of their care needs and develop a relationship to ensure the woman's experience is positive.
5. Independently managing the day to day activity within our Oral Glucose Tolerance test clinics.
