Full time 10 PA's per week. Permanent post.
Specialist role required to support the Eye Unit through clinics, surgery, and on-call. The role is to provide support to Consultant and Associate Specialist colleagues, as well as working independently and autonomously.
Main duties of the job
Outpatients
The candidate is expected to carry out independent outpatient clinics under consultant supervision with a possibility of autonomous clinics in the future (currently being reviewed) based on appropriate skills and experience. Sub-specialty clinic support will include acute referral clinic (ARC), Glaucoma, and Uveitis clinics. They may also include Diabetes, MR, Symptom and Neuro clinics.
To undertake sessions in their specialist interest area.
Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other senior medical colleagues.
The Doctor may be required to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, and exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to ensure the safe running of the Department.
Elective
For the cases where the Associate Specialist carries out surgery it is expected:
They provide support to Trainees for dedicated surgical lists
They have overall accountability for the patients they operate on with oversight from a consultant
To participate in the pre and post op management of patients they operate on
To participate in any national data collection requirement for surgical procedures performed
On-Call Rota
The candidate is expected to support the first on-call rota, as part of the fair and consistent distribution of duties between staff.
