Consultant Upper GI & General Surgeon
The Royal Bolton Hospital has been developed as the district general hospital for the area and serves a catchment population of 320,000 which includes the Bolton Metropolitan Borough as well as parts of Atherton, Leigh and Walkden. The hospital has all the specialties found in a large acute district general hospital.
The General Surgical department is based in the development which contains the accident and emergency department, outpatient and radiology departments with CT & MRI, main theatre suite, daycase unit, endoscopy unit, intensive care unit and high dependency unit.
There is a Divisional Structure system in operation. General Surgery and Breast Surgery Services is a Business Unit within this structure and is part of the Anaesthetics and Surgical Services Division. The Clinical Lead Mr Smith reports to the Medical Director for the Division.
The service runs an ambulatory care unit, assessment unit, ward areas and an outpatient area delivering emergency, urgent, routine and cancer services.
Main duties of the job
Duties of the post
1. To participate in the delivery of Upper GI Surgical services and contribute to the upper GI cancer MDT.
2. To provide support for the emergency service by supporting sessions in the Same Day Emergency Clinic.
3. To contribute to the on call rota for General Surgery.
4. To provide General Surgical / Upper GI outpatient clinics.
5. To provide appropriate operating sessions.
6. To provide endoscopy services.
Planned activities
The post appointee will undertake 10 PA's each week allocated as per the job plan provided, but these will be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
