An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an inspirational, passionate and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Rapid Diagnostic Centre team

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with advanced clinical skills who can work autonomously and as a key member of the RDC team.
The RDC Nurse Specialist will provide a rapid evaluation of the patient to reach a definitive diagnosis, advice to the patient on management of their condition, signposting to appropriate support services and rapid onward treatment should cancer be diagnosed. The post holder will support patients with a suspected cancer diagnosis through the vague symptom pathways and also the new pathways being developed as part of the service expansion. The role will also involve co-ordinating the care of patients undergoing Radiological and Endoscopy investigation and supporting patients through their procedures, as well as engaging with primary care teams to provide support and education for referrers.
A commitment to individualised evidence based patient care and ability to act sensitively with empathy as well as having excellent communication skills is essential.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The RDC will offer a GP urgent referral service for patients with non-specific symptoms which could indicate cancer, as well as additional site specific Two Week Wait pathways. The RDC will provide a rapid evaluation of the patient to reach a definitive diagnosis, advice to the patient on management of their condition, signposting to appropriate support services and rapid onward treatment should cancer be diagnosed.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Working alongside RDC Clinical team and provide nursing clinical leadership across the RDC service and responsibility for ensuring the delivery of high quality patient care
- Practising autonomously and being self-directed, including leading on providing excellent patient care in line with developed RDC pathways and being a clinical champion to cascade best clinical practice.
- Be accountable for co-ordinating patient care with the RDC navigators
- Providing line management support to the members of the RDC navigators
- Take responsibility for the implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives and support the evaluation of the RDC service
- Representing the Trust and the speciality at both internal and external meetings related to the RDC service as appropriate
- Being responsible for evaluating and delivering health promotion and screening advice, given opportunistically to patients as appropriate
