An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Team to provide specialist medicines related to risk and medicines safety.
This Senior Clinical Pharmacist will work as the Trust Medicines Safety Officer and act as an expert and advisor to colleagues across the Trust in relation to the risks associated with medication.
You will be a team player with a flair for communication, you will have good problem solving skills and an approachable, supportive nature. You will be required to work in a pressurised environment and will be expected to manage your own workload and timetable effectively. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your own skills as an expert within the Pharmacy Team.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and skilled clinical pharmacist, with a keen interest in reducing risk associated with medicines use to further enhance our service.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will:
- Act as the Medication Safety Officer, fulfilling the role described by NHS England
- Oversee the investigation of medicines related incidents and complaints by leading the medication safety team by exploring and implementing ways of minimising the risk of future reoccurrence to staff and patients.
- Proactively identifying medication risk prior to patient harm through innovatively developing local and trust wide action plans
- Work with other Senior Pharmacists to ensure that the whole team delivers a consistent level of safe pharmaceutical care and actively seeks to improve pharmacy services
- Participate in relevant local, regional and national medicine safety networks ensuring the communication of information and shared learning of patient safety incidents
- Review maintain and update the departmental Risk Register and provide assistance into Trust wide medication risks
- Coordinate the review of medicines related clinical incidents and implement innovate action plans to mitigate risk and promote learning as NHS England's Patient Safety Incident Response framework (PSIRF)
- To act as the medicines safety expert in local departmental meetings and Trust wide committees including medicines safety, medical gases, divisional governance and drugs and therapeutics
- Promote and foster a safe working environment for shared learning through incident reporting

Essential
- Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Pre-registration training and experience
- Membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Diploma in clinical pharmacy
- Good all round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills.
Desirable
- Evidence of further education/training in clinical pharmacy practice
- Formal Management qualification (eg diploma or degree)
- Pharmacist Independent Prescriber
- Membership of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
Experience
Essential
- Post registration hospital experience,
- Post registration hospital experience within a relevant clinical speciality. or equivalent documented clinical experience
- Ability to cope with occasional distressing circumstances eg when dealing with seriously ill patients
- Able to think clearly in stressful situations
- Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
Desirable
- Previous clinical experience in specialised field
- Line management experience
- Experience of appraisal and objective setting
- Evidence of successful multi-disciplinary working
