Job summary

Bolton Adult Speech and Language Therapy Services are looking for a speech and language therapist to work within the community employed Bolton Foundation NHS Trust.

Your role will include managing a complex caseload providing a highly specialist service to patients with disorders of communication and swallowing primarily associated with head and neck cancer and ENT conditions. You will be supported by Clinical Specialist Nurses and ENT Consultants. Liaising with the wider multidisciplinary teams who support this patient group.

We are a dedicated team working across the hospital, community and voice service. There is a good skill mix and we have regular team meetings, monthly in-service training, clinical supervision and appraisal programmes in place. We support flexible working arrangements.

You will need to have a recognised Speech and Language therapy qualification and HPC registration and excellent team working skills.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to experience working in the field of head and neck cancer. Experience in Videofluroscopy is desirable and experience in Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing would be beneficial.

Job responsibilities

To be a member of the team based at Lever Chambers and the Royal Bolton Hospital providing a highly specialist service to adults with acquired speech and language difficulties, and dysphagia (swallowing problems), resulting primarily from head and neck cancer and ENT conditions.

To provide a highly specialist diagnostic and therapeutic service to patients with speech and language disorders and dysphagia who will be from a variety of ethnic and social backgrounds in the community and in a variety of settings including the Royal Bolton Hospital .

To liaise with, and train other health and social service professionals and to work in partnership with patients, relatives and carers, and external agencies to ensure the delivery of a high quality service.

To lead SLT led videofluroscopy clinics and/or fibre-optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) examinations in accordance with RCSLT competencies and national and local guidelines.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of one's professional and clinical work, working to agreed national and professional standards.
