An exciting opportunity has arisen, at Royal Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, to lead a high performing Haematology Department as the specialty Laboratory. The role also encompasses an exceptional Blood Sciences Specimen Reception and Phlebotomy Team.

The Job will involve close working relationships with the Blood Transfusion Manager (as staffing is shared across the area) and the Specimen Reception/Phlebotomy Manager, who will report directly to the post holder.

Main duties of the job

Promoting continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within all specialties. Lead in the delivery of service and workforce transformation and re-design in line with departmental objectives. Primary focus on benefits realisation of new Laboratory Information management system and ensuring staffing is fit for the future.

Assisting the Consultant Head of service in providing a comprehensive scientific service, analytical and interpretive, to nationally accepted standards and will be required to deliver a broad range of complex, specialised and non-routine scientific work requiring skilled performance with a high level of individual responsibility.

To participate/chair in departmental meetings including the department specific, Laboratory Medicine Operational Team and Governance escalating good and poor performance as appropriate.

Day to day management of the specialities including Health and Safety compliance, UKAS standards, HR matters, payroll, finances, physical resources and data collection/analysis.

  • MSc Biomedical Science plus further specialist training (or equivalent qualification/experience).
