Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon
Full Time 10 PA's per week for a fixed term of six months
The Royal Bolton Hospital has been developed as the district general hospital for the area and serves a catchment population of 320,000 which includes the Bolton Metropolitan Borough as well as parts of Atherton, Leigh and Walkden. The hospital has all the specialties found in a large acute district general hospital.
The General Surgical department is based in the development which contains the accident and emergency department, outpatient and radiology departments with CT & MRI, main theatre suite, daycase unit, endoscopy unit, intensive care unit and high dependency unit.
There is a Divisional Structure system in operation. General Surgery and Breast Surgery Services is a Business Unit within this structure and is part of the Anaesthetics and Surgical Services Division. The Clinical Lead Mr Smith reports to the Medical Director for the Division.
The service runs an ambulatory care unit, assessment unit, ward areas and an outpatient area delivering emergency, urgent, routine and cancer services.

To be eligible to apply for this post you must be within 6 months of obtaining your CCT or already have a certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
Main duties of the job
Duties of the post
- To participate in the delivery of Colorectal and General Surgical services and contribute to the colorectal cancer MDT.
- To provide support for the emergency service by supporting sessions in the Surgical Acute Referral Clinic.
- To contribute as required to the 1:8 on call rota for General Surgery.
- To provide General Surgical/Colorectal out patient clinics.
- To provide appropriate operating sessions.
- To provide endoscopy services
Planned activities
The post appointee will undertake 10 PA's each week allocated as per the job plan provided, but these will be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
