An exciting opportunity has arisen for an NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainer to join our Northern Care Alliance (NCA) Clinical Coding Team.
At NCA you will deliver high-quality clinical coding training across one of the widest and most complex specialty ranges in the NHS -- from obstetrics and neonates to spinal, neurosurgery, rehab and major trauma. Few trusts nationally can offer this breadth of casemix.
You will plan and deliver structured trainee programmes, refresher training, classification updates and specialty workshops, supporting coders from entry level through to National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) and beyond.
You will work within a leadership team that includes an NHS England Approved Trainer, ensuring strong professional support and a clear commitment to trainer development.
Applicants must be NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainers with excellent communication skills and a passion for developing others.
We would also consider applicants who have secured a place on NHS England's 2026/27 Clinical Coding Trainer Programme (CCTP) Assessment Day (June 2026).

Main duties of the job
As Clinical Coding Trainer, you will plan, organise and deliver a comprehensive training programme for the Trust's Clinical Coding Department, supporting staff from trainee level through to accredited coders. This will include delivering structured trainee programmes, Clinical Coding Standards Refresher courses, classification updates, specialty-based workshops and bespoke one-to-one development.
Working closely with the audit and extended leadership team, you will identify learning needs, develop targeted action plans and implement SMART recommendations to continuously improve coding quality, accuracy and consistency across all specialties.
You will provide expert advice on complex coding queries, applying national standards in ICD-10, OPCS-4 and related guidance, while supporting the implementation of new standards and updates. Acting as a key link between coders, clinicians and management, you will promote engagement, improve documentation quality and ensure coded data supports reimbursement, performance reporting and clinical governance.
The role is peripatetic across all sites within the Northern Care Alliance, requiring strong communication skills, leadership presence and the ability to influence and motivate others to achieve high-quality, standards-compliant clinical coding.
