Job summary
The Capital Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Foundation Trust's capital accounting section ensuring the accurate recording of the Trust's land, buildings and equipment on the asset register, and monitoring the annual capital expenditure budget and ensuring that expenditure is in accordance with SFI's.
You will assist in the production of the Trust's statutory accounts and the maintenance and control of associated financial systems and stand-alone asset register. Responsible for recruitment and training of Capital accounting staff, ensuring annual Personal Development Plans are agreed and provide training where necessary. Line managing more junior team members, including the Assistant Capital Accountant, understanding and planning their workload and providing hands on coaching.
Main duties of the job
- Effectively plan, organise and supervise the Capital Accounting Section to achieve accurate recording of the capital spending including ifrs16 assets, of the Trust. Ensure that the spending is in accordance with accounting standards, the Government Accounting Manual (GAM) and the Trust Standing Financial Instructions.
- Support the Associate Director of Financial Services in providing financial information to the Group Capital Committee and also assist with the production of the Trust annual accounts and regular reports to NHSE and the Greater Manchester Integrated Care.
- Provide information downloaded from the Fixed Asset register software to support and assist with the calculation of the annual depreciation estimates, ad hoc revaluations and impairments.
- Manage the year-end process for capitalisation of assets in accordance with international accounting standards; ensuring appropriate reserve entries are processed in the General Ledger. Prepare information for inclusion within the Statutory Accounts and financial returns.
- Responsible for recruitment and training of Capital accounting staff, ensuring annual Personal Development Plans are agreed and provide training where necessary.

- Ensuring that all reporting timetables are adhered to on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
