Biomedical Scientist - Haematology/Blood Transfusion

Job summary

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the team in the UKAS Accredited Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratories based at the Royal Oldham Hospital, NCA Trust.

The custom built, Central Service Laboratory serves The Royal Oldham Hospital Trust sites and Rochdale Infirmary as well as primary care services within the vicinity. There is also an essential services laboratory at Fairfield General Hospital, Bury and similarly equipped laboratories across the NCA. The department has just installed new replacement Sysmex XN haematology analysers and CN coagulation analysers across Haematology NCA. In addition, Tosoh G11 HPLC is in use for Haemoglobinopathy and Ortho Vision for Blood Transfusion. A new laboratory information management system will also be installed later in 2025.

We are in an exciting time of development and change, following the formation of the Northern Care Alliance. You will help to ensure that service delivery continues to be quality driven and ensure care is of the high standard that we would expect for our patients.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Band 5 Biomedical Scientist in a busy but friendly Haematology and Blood Transfusion department. Applications to join our team, are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals with HCPC registration or those on target to qualify within the next six months and who also have both Haematology and Blood Transfusion experience. You will rotate through all the departmental sections and assist in the daily running of this busy department, undertaking duties appropriate to your band. The post holder will be required to participate in 24/7 shift rota and work across sites after appropriate training.

You will be a good team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible approach. You will be committed to patient safety, improving and maintaining quality.

The department is approved by the IBMS for pre and post registration training and is UKAS accredited. The department is fully equipped with new equipment throughout laboratory.

Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are encouraged and supported.
