Job summary
Applications are invited to apply for the post of a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine at Salford Royal Hospital.
We are looking for someone who has an excellent track record in their field and is able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong leadership and communication skills will also be required, as the successful applicant will be expected to join an established team of Consultant Respiratory Physicians and support, deliver, and develop the Chronic Airway Disease service at Salford Royal Hospital as part of the Northern Care Alliance.
The successful candidate will join our dynamic respiratory team to provide exceptional patient care, contribute to the development of service delivery, and engage in teaching and research initiatives.
Salford Royal Hospital is a large teaching hospital (over 3,600 staff) and is a centre of excellence providing specialist and tertiary services on a sub-regional, regional and supra-regional basis. The successful candidate will join 8 WTE Respiratory consultants each of whom has sub-speciality interests
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide respiratory services within Salford Royal Hospital together with the existing post-holders. The successful candidate will provide clinical sessions in Respiratory Medicine and have a leading role in the development and delivery of academic research activities within the department including research in airway diseases , and to collaborate with other specialities and departments within GM and beyond to ensure successful delivery of research projects.

Qualifications and Professional Registration
Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice
- Completion of higher specialty training in Respiratory Medicine (or equivalent).
Desirable
- Higher degree (MD/ PhD) in Respiratory Medicine (ideally with focus on airway diseases) would be desirable but not essential.
- Member of national, European and international respiratory societies
- Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Knowledge, training and Experience

- Ability to lead clinical audits and quality improvement projects
- Substantial experience in managing patients with airway diseases, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
