It is an exciting time to join the the Rochdale team, as we been awarded GREEN TAAS status and Surgical hub accreditation from our recent GIRFT review, supporting the High Volume Low Complexity service we deliver to our patient population.

Rochdale's Theatre expansion programme, will incorporate an additional theatre and clinic services to support valuable perioperative services which will benefit the whole of the NCA and the patients we serve.

In this position you will cover a variety of specialties including Urology Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Plastics and Orthopaedic Surgery.

This is an exciting position for someone who would like to be part of a developing service.

You can expect support from the senior leadership team to develop in this role.

Main duties of the job

I this role, you will work alongside our established Band 7 team, delivering leadership when coordinating the department on a daily basis, accepting additional responsibilities such as sickness management, leading a team of band 6s, contributing to the Theatre Excellence programme and identifying cost improvements and more efficient was of working. You will deputise for your Lead nurse when required.

The practitioner should be an expert in the assessment, planning, and implementation of all areas of perioperative care from patient's admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. They will manage unit staff including appraisal, rota's, recruitment and selection and the supervision of learners. Support and lead a team of theatre staff in the delivery of evidence based patient centred care, which is of a high standard. They are responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources.

Job responsibilities

Management Responsibilities:

Exercise effective managerial and clinical leadership of the theatre staff in conjunction with the theatre manager.

Take responsibility for effective daily management of the elective operation lists, ensuring appropriate staff skill mix, in and out of hours.

Deputise for the theatre manager ensuring effective and efficient running of the department if required

Ensure that duty rotas are prepared reflecting skill mix against patient workload. Maintain accurate records

Manage annual leave, special leave and sickness/absence of staff within the department as per policies.

Undertake individual performance review and the identification and implementation of personal development plans for all staff.

Take responsibility for actions to secure the most appropriate use of resources.

In the absence of the Theatre manager, sanction agency and overtime as and when required using departmental guidelines

Deal personally with patients, families, carers and staff, as appropriate in order to aid resolution of complaints.

Organise /chair regular Team meetings and other meetings as and when required.

Facilitate open and effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team.

Participate in the selection and appointment of staff within Team

In conjunction with the Theatre Manager, monitor the registration status of all professionally registered staff within Theatres.

Be responsible where appropriate for reporting all accidents/untoward incidents and ensuring relevant documentation is completed. Undertake follow up investigations developing actions plans to prevent further incidents occurring.15. Actively promote and monitor the safety, wellbeing and interests of the patients, staff and all visitors to the clinical area.

Be conversant with and assist in the departments contribution to local, corporate, regional and national performance objectives

Take responsibility for assisting the theatre manager in ensuring that national guidelines relating to decontamination and traceability of medical devices are adhered to.

Professional:

Maintain his/her own professional status and ensure that the NMC/HPC requirements for registration are met and adhered to.

Maintain a Personal Professional Profile.

Maintain good relationships, communications with all disciplines within the Trust and externally, which could include complex and sensitive information.

Maintain good relationships and effective communication with patients, relatives and carers.

Maintain good relationships and effective communication within a multidisciplinary team both internally and externally to the department

Act in the best interests for the patient/client and/or carer when necessary.

Act as a role model at all times and contribute towards the provision of nursing expertise and specialist knowledge within the area of practice.

Act in accordance with the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Nursing Strategy for Patient Care.

Lead / participate in Theatre and/or professional group meetings.

Keep up to date with current issues and developments in nursing andhealthcare.

In conjunction with the Skills facilitator lead the development and delivery of Preceptorship/mentorship programmes

Participate in the development and delivery of Clinical Supervision Programmes

Ensure that information processed for both patients and staff is kept accurate, confidential and secure in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and the Security and Confidentiality Policy.

Education and Training:

Take responsibility for pursuing his/her own professional development in accordance with an agreed personal development plan.

Facilitate and actively participate in the teaching and supervision of all members of staff.

3. Act as a mentor/assessor for learners.

Create an environment conducive to the acquisition of further knowledge and specialist skills.

5. In conjunction with other staff be responsible for the orientation and induction of new staff.

6. Develop his/her managerial skills in accordance with an agreed personal development plan

Participate in patient education and health promotion programmes, developing and reviewing as necessary.

Liaise with all colleagues in a teaching capacity to ensure an over-all coordinated approach to staff development.

Be responsible for ensuring all Team members attend all mandatory training/update sessions.

Participate in any accredited visits by any external organisations.

Participate in any external visits organised by external organisations.

Clinical:

Be responsible for specialised patient care.

Create and develop an environment, which promotes the value of patient care.

Maintain a high clinical profile and facilitate application of theory to practice.

Be available as the point of contact for specialist advice in regard to Team specialities.

Lead as appropriate and contribute towards the formulation of policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.

Implement policies for own work area and propose policy changes, which could impact beyond own area of activity.

Maintain accurate, legible and timely written/verbal/electronic (TIMS) reports, which inform other members of the multi-disciplinary team and patients and their carers.

Ensure that changes in theatre, order of lists etc are amended on TIMS.

Carry out clinical duties in accordance with The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust local and national standards and policies.

Advise patients/clients of the promotion of health and prevention of illness.

Take responsibility for the correct use and operation of medical equipment, in accordance with relevant Trust and national guidance.

Monitor and develop standards of care within the Trusts Governance Framework and agreed priorities, contributing to and leading audit where appropriate.

Assist in the orientation of Junior Doctors in regard to specialities within team.

Ensure compliance with all Trust policies and national guidelines
