Job summary

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen to join the Cancer Services team in an innovative position of Cancer Pathway Navigator within The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group.

The Pathway Navigator will be pivotal in supporting early diagnostic pathways for patients with a suspected cancer to achieve a definitive diagnosis by day 28 following referral by the GP. The navigator will be involved from the beginning of the pathway to work both directly and indirectly with both patients and their carers to assist in coordinating the patient pathway. The role of the navigator will be to improve both patient compliance and the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

We require a Pathway Navigator.We are seeking motivated, enthusiastic individuals to support Cancer Pathways across NCA.

We require dynamic flexible individuals with advanced IT, administrative and organisational skills. The post holders will be required to have excellent communication skills and an ability to deal with complex situations with service users and clinicians over the phone and in person.

An ability to work autonomously and to respond quickly to requests is required in addition to the ability to use your own initiative.

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent
  • ECDL or equivalent demonstrable skills
  • NVQ2/3 in Health or Social Care or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Basic Communication Skills Training (e.g. Sage/Thyme)

Experience

  • Proven experience of working in a health care setting
  • Experience of working as part of a team and in isolation
