Job summary
We are excited to be offering a 8A preceptorship role as a Clinical Psychologist working in a specialist multidisciplinary team (MDT) with individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) in Greater Manchester. Depending on clinical preference, the role includes 0.2wte to engage in outpatient pain psychology or outpatient neuropsychology work. The preceptorship model would mean that you would be employed at a Band 7 pay grade until you complete predetermined competencies, which would be financially underwritten by the Trust. Depending on clinical preference, the neuropsychology/health and pain psychology department would support you in terms of finances and study leave to:
- Complete the postgraduate diploma (PGDip) in Clinical Neuropsychology.Or- Complete specialist training in a specific therapeutic approach that would be beneficial for their clinical work (e.g. EMDR, ACT), for example.
Once you complete predetermined competencies, you wouldthen be paid at Band 8A.
Main duties of the job
The SCI MDT includes Allied Health Professionals, Nursing, and Medics and will better meet the needs of individuals with SCI in Great Manchester. The role will include direct work and indirect/consultation-based practice with patients, families, and staff, along with training and support for those working in the service. The post will be based at Salford Royal, with some outreach and/or consultation in relation to individuals with SCI in other hospitals in the area.
Clinical supervision for the role will be provided by a Consultant ClinicalNeuropsychologist with experience in Spinal Cord Injury, Major Trauma, Neurorehabilitation, and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist from the Pain Psychology service.
You will form a part of a wider team of Clinical Psychologists, ClinicalNeuropsychologists, and Assistant Psychologists working in spinal cord injury, major trauma, neurorehabilitation, and pain psychology. You will also be able link in with other psychologists SCI teams both nationally, and in the North West (e.g. Southport, Cheshire & Merseyside, Lancashire & Cumbria) regarding service development and for peer supervision/support. More recently, the SCI and Neuropsychology Department at Salford Royal have been working with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to help upskill Psychologists working in the National Rehabilitation Centre in Ukraine, and it is hoped that we can continue to provide mentoring and supervision as our relationship develops.
