Senior Clinical Fellow / Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine
This job is now closed
Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic middle grade doctor (ST4+ level) who is keen to develop their career in Emergency Medicine with us, being supported by a team who is proud of our educational culture.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Emergency Department which soon will incorporate a newly built state of the art Emergency Receiving Area within the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Centre.
You will join our team as a Senior Clinical Fellow with 80% clinical time, spent on the upper grade rota, and 20% non-clinical time to undertake an additional role in your choice of area of interest, whether it be education, quality improvement, research and/or trauma. You will be granted a study budget to support this.
The ideal candidate should be making good progress towards completing their MRCEM examinations and already be working at ST3+ level in Emergency Medicine.
Our Emergency Department receives more than 100,000 type 1 patients per annum, of whom approximately 1,200 are received as major trauma calls for those triggering prehospital major trauma activation in the Greater Manchester and surrounding areas. A high proportion of these major trauma patients have elevated Injury Severity Score, requiring critical care admission.
We are also home to the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences and the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre.
Main duties of the job
You will work at a level equivalent to ST4+ and share the rota with our current Specialty Registrars and Senior Clinical Fellows in Emergency Medicine. Initially you will be supernumerary (depending on experience), after which you will join the self-rostering full shift pattern upper grade (Registrar level) rota.
The successful candidate will join our dynamic and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team of medical staff, trainees, nursing, and allied health professionals, and will be given responsibilities for patient care commensurate with their level of experience and training.
We support senior clinical fellows in obtaining the training and secondments required to successfully complete all aspects of the Portfolio Pathway (previously known as CESR). The department has a CESR lead and two RCEM CESR assessors. We are in the process of setting up a more formal CESR programme in our department for fellows who wish to pursue this route.
At the core of our outstanding reputation is an emphasis on sustainability and flexible working. We recognise that a good work-life balance is of paramount importance in developing a rewarding career.
