Job summary

Imaging, Pathology and Pharmacy services across Salford and Pennine Acute were brought together to create a cohesive diagnostics and pharmacy service, called the NCA Diagnostic and Pharmacy Group (D&P). Since this date we have been transforming and aligning our clinical service to ensure safe consistent and high-quality care across our organisation.

D&P supports the four Care Organisations (Bury, Oldham, Salford, and Rochdale). The Group has approximately 1,700 staff and runs services from multiple sites across the NCA. D&P staff are a diverse and highly skilled group, responsible for the delivery of diagnostic services alongside clinical teams.

The Imaging Radiation Protection Lead is responsible for overseeing all elements of governance and risk assurance in relation to radiation protection including research studies, working closely with the Imaging and D&P Senior Management Teams.

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with the Directorate Managers, Clinical Directors, and Divisional Managing Director the post holder will provide visible senior leadership and strategic direction to ensure effective radiation protection, health and safety and risk strategies for Imaging across the NCA. They will act as an expert in Radiation Safety, ensuring that all legal and statutory requirements (IR[ME]R 2017 & IRR 2017) are upheld across the sites and that evidence is available to demonstrate this as well as leading on any inspections.

The post holder will take the lead role for radiation protection across the Trust, investigating incidents of radiation exposure greater than intended and acting as a core member of the Medical Exposures Group and Radiation Protection Committee.

The post holder will act as the main point of contact and approver for any research within Imaging which may involve ionising radiation.

Although the advert states the Royal Oldham Hospital as a base site, this can be discussed at interview and could be any hospital site within the Northern Care Alliance to suit the successful applicant.

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant subject
  • Evidence of ongoing, relevant post graduate education
  • In depth expert knowledge of the legal requirements relating to the delivery of services involving radiation
  • In-depth expert knowledge of the requirements relating to radiation protection, specifically IRR, IR(ME)R and HSE
  • Expert knowledge relating to requirements of a robust clinical governance structure
  • Evidence of managerial responsibilities and operational experience in a multidisciplinary acute setting
  • Experience of CQC inspections both in preparation and participation and managing the outcome
  • Broad experience of Imaging equipment and techniques
  • Experience of managing a Radiation Protection and Safety Agenda
