Job summary

The primary objective of this post is to support the formulation of future organisation and technology strategy in order to guide the Trust through transformation and optimisation initiatives. This will include helping the organisation achieve targeted outcomes related to growing revenue, optimising costs and mitigating risks. They will focus on building relationships with business and IT stakeholders, communicating the value of Enterprise Architecture and the services it offers, and shaping and guiding the delivery of EA's services.

The post holder will build and lead the formal EA practice, managing a team of domain architects (business, information, solution, technical, security, other). They will respond to disruptive forces by facilitating the decision-making process and providing actionable recommendations on initiatives and policies to help the organisation drive targeted outcomes. They will work closely with senior Trust leaders to enable and influence their future-state capabilities through the choice of initiatives, whether process-, organisation- or technology-related.

The Head of Enterprise Architecture will help Trust Leaders achieve business outcomes through understanding, monetising and operationalising existing, new and emerging technologies. They build and motivate the EA team -- empowering domain architects -- with coaching and mentoring to build a creative and safe learning environment.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Enterprise Architecture will be accountable for ensuring:

  • Engagement with business and IT stakeholders, creating and building relationships related to harnessing the value of an Enterprise Architecture (EA).
  • Communication of the value of enterprise architecture, and its portfolio of services.
  • Establishment and evolution of the EA team's services and operating model.
  • The alignment between the Digital function and its stakeholders across the Trust, and throughout the IT landscape

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to a minimum of Master's degree level, or equivalent post graduate qualification or equivalent level of experience within a senior Digital role
  • Degree level or equivalent qualification specifically in discipline(s) related to role
  • Evidence of management development through Continuous Professional Development and/or formal management course
  • TOGAF certification
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge, acquired through a combination of in-depth experience and post-graduate/post-registration study obtained through a master's degree, equivalent experience or significant formal training or research.

Desirable

  • Experience of implementing relevant tools, techniques and models for reporting, capacity planning, and prioritisation
  • Relevant professional body registration

Experience

Essential

  • Significant relevant experience within a Digital environment with a high degree of complexity acquired through training and experience over extended period
  • Experience of managing a variety of senior stakeholders with conflicting agendas
  • Experience of conducting negotiations relating to highly complex matters both internal and external to the organisation

  • An understanding and knowledge of the workings of the NHS or healthcare environment
