Job summary
As a health care assistant in Neurophysiology you will be responsible for supporting the Consultant Neurophysiologists and Registrars in clinic ensuring that our service users needs are met through the delivery of high quality care. As part of the Greater Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN)you will offer a person centred approach, ensuring compassionate and patient centred care. Main duties of the job
- Organise the efficient running of the day to day workload for NCS/EMG clinics in liaison with the clinicians and other clinical physiologists.
- Contribute to the implementation of policies/protocols/guidelines for the dept.To respect the individual's privacy, dignity and beliefs
- To prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken
- Prepare the environment for recording Neurophysiological procedures.
- Ensure previous NCS/EMG results are available for the clinicians/clinical physiologists prior to the investigation
- Check appropriate mobility aids e.g. hoist are available when required
- Prior to each NCS/EMG clinic check porters have been ordered for any in -patients to be seen in the clinic
- Provide support and assistance to the clinicians and clinical physiologists with basic patient care during clinics.
- Greet and assist patients guiding them from the waiting area to the clinic rooms. When in the clinic room guiding them on and off the examination couch and with dressing and undressing when necessary. This may include patients in wheelchairs or with limited mobility guiding and handling of beds/ trolleys/ wheelchairs into the clinic rooms
- Ensure patients for NCS/EMG are warm enough prior to the investigation.
- Clean equipment, electrodes and the recording room at the end of each clinic according to Trust and departmental policies/protocols/guidelines.
