Job summary
The post holder will be expected to work with the Colorectal Nursing Team within the Department of Colorectal Surgery.
You will join a well established, highly motivated and experienced team of nurses, support workers and administration staff who will offer a supportive learning and working environment. You will provide detailed specialist knowledge and high-quality care to patients with complex colorectal disease including cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
The post requires input in all areas of service, including inpatients, outpatients and independent nurse led clinics at Salford Care Org (SCO) and in the future this may involve working at other NCA sites to meet service need.
Main duties of the job
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate highly specialist nursing care to patients with colorectal disease. Liaising with their families/carers.
- Will provide direct patient care and enhance the well-being of patients, providing support and advice to ensure patients are effectively updated on their disease.
- Will work closely with the multidisciplinary team.
- Will work autonomously, exercising a high level of clinical expertise.
- Will provide expertise in clinical risk management, clinical prioritisation and evaluation.
- Provision of educational support to patients, carers and colleagues across organisational and professional boundaries
- Network with external organisations to ensure safe discharge in a timely manner, thereby helping to reduce length of stay in the patient population.
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist nursing care programmes to meet the needs of patients with colorectal disease.
- Will work autonomously and with the wider colorectal MDT including Consultants and their teams and fellow clinical Nurse Specialists
