Job summary

In collaboration with Dementia UK - Salford Care Organisation are looking to recruit an exceptional, registered nurse with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship-centred dementia care for people and families living with young onset dementia.

Main duties of the job

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who work with and support people with living with dementia and their families. This is a specialist Young Onset Band 7 Admiral Nurse post, you will be based at Salford Care Organisation and work (+/- HOST organisation and region) to develop, influence, deliver, coordinate and evaluate relationship-centred young onset dementia care.

The Admiral Nurse will lead, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care for younger people with dementia and their families in Greater Manchester in order to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia[1] with complex needs.

In line with the Admiral Nurse Competency framework, the post holder will provide:

  • Specialist bio-psychosocial assessment and support for people with young onset dementia and families with complex needs
  • Facilitation of education and training for staff in the delivery of evidence-based young onset dementia care
  • Clinical leadership with policy development and quality improvements in relation to young onset dementia care

You will be employed by Salford Care Organisation and will work under the direct management of the Lead Nurse in Medical Neurosciences, alongside being supported by Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist young onset nurse within dementia care (through ongoing Professional and Practice Development).

You will also become part of a growing network of other young onset and rare dementia speciality Admiral Nurses.

You will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.

The successful applicant will be an NMC registered (adult/mental health/learning disability) nurse, with extensive and expert post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and supporting their carers/supporters within different care settings. Extensive experience within the acute field / hospital setting is desirable.You will have formal knowledge of dementia as acquired through post graduate training/education programmes.
