Job summary
We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity, for an experienced senior nurse to provide professional and clinical nursing leadership and operational management to the orthopaedic trauma and vascular services at the Royal Oldham Hospital, which consists of the following teams:
- T7 Orthopaedic Trauma
- T8 Trauma Assessment & Stabilisation Unit
- Trauma Nurse Specialist team
- T3 Vascular Surgery
The post, which is to cover maternity leave for 12 months, will provide an interesting and challenging development opportunity to someone who would like to progress into a Band 8a leadership role, or someone currently at Band 8a level wishing to experience a new speciality.
The post holder will be supported by a dedicated leadership team consisting of the Assistant Director of Nursing, Directorate Manager and the clinical Director, as well as peer support from other lead nurses in the division of surgery and the Divisional Director of Nursing for Surgery.
This role will suit someone who has a positive attitude, who enjoys improving services for patients and staff and adapts well to the challenge of the role.
Main duties of the job
Potential applicants should have a firm understanding of the Band 8a Lead Nurse role, with specific demonstrable evidence of:
- Governance processes including complaint management, reducing risk through a culture of incident reporting and mitigating risks in a timely manner: undertaking risk investigation including the process of rapid review and concise investigation.
- Understanding of the complexities of safe staffing and how this is maintained and mitigated.
- Understanding of HR processes including sickness absence and performance management.
- Knowledge of infection control standards and compliance.
- Evidence of participation in quality improvement projects and associated changes to improve patient and staff experience, improve quality and reduce risk
- Good understanding and demonstrable evidence of making improvements to support successful Nursing Accreditation outcomes, and how these link to overall CQC compliance and patient quality.
- Ability to undertake day to day operational leadership of inpatient nursing trauma and vascular services, whilst supporting ward manager teams and giving assurance to the Assistant Director of Nursing.
- Developing a supportive culture where teams are encouraged to succeed with supportive challenge.
