Job summary

This is a split job role, with 60% time per week allocated to Project 1, and 40% time per week to Project 2, over 12 months. It is anticipated the role will continue after this date dependent of securing additional funding and adequate performance.

Project title 1 (60% time): The Global Registry of Alopecia Areata disease Severity and treatment Safety - United Kingdom (GRASS-UK)

The aim of GRASS-UK is to develop the infrastructure to deliver a national alopecia areata (AA) registry, allowing collection of high-quality real-world safety and effectiveness data to improve patient care. The role will involve study set-up, pilot data collection, and support expansion to other research sites.

Project title 2 (40% time): NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Inflammatory Hair diseases programme

The aim of this programme is to understand disease mechanisms, discover biomarkers and identify novel treatment targets for inflammatory hair loss conditions, including alopecia areata, scarring alopecias, female pattern hair loss and chemotherapy-induced alopecia. The role will support study recruitment, data and biomaterial collection, and participation in CTIMP studies.

The post holder will provide specialist research and clinical care for participants in research studies whilst also liaising with Research Investigators and Sponsor companies to manage trial protocols and ensure that data collected is to the highest standards, with a commitment to participant safety and welfare.

Main duties of the job

Main duties will include (but are not limited to) assisting with the setting up of the the pilot study and co-ordinating patient identification

Early expansion phase once platform testing has completed, key responsibilities here will involve consenting participants, liaising with study centres, and training investigators to facilitate efficient and consistent recruitment into the disease register along with helping to prepare the study website and training materials.

The post-holder will be responsible for all aspects of our human volunteer studies, which will be conducted in the Dermatopharmacology Unit at Salford Royal Hospital, under the supervision of Dr Matthew Harries and working alongside our current research nurse Sister Caroline White. You will: maintain ethical and other regulatory approvals; recruit eligible participants to the study; undertake research procedures in volunteers (e.g., scalp skin biopsies; hair plucking; blood tests); maintain accurate study records; compile study data; liaise regularly with other members of the project team; prepare study reports. Support and training will be provided as required.

The post holder will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review process in order to achieve the knowledge and skills identified in the outline for this post making use of all resources available to them and utilizing any appropriate development frameworks.
