Job summary
The successful candidate will be based in the Surgical Triage Unit, an acute assessment and admission unit for general surgery, urology and gynaecology patients, and the associated ambulatory care service for general surgery. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a busy teaching hospital, gaining a wide variety of surgical skills and experience in a tertiary referral centre for specialist services such as intestinal failure, endocrine surgery and upper GI cancer, and a regional trauma centre. The candidate will take part in the general surgical on call middle grade (SHO/CT/FY2) rota covering urology and general surgery, as well as gaining emergency operative experience through participation in the daytime CEPOD theatre rota.
Main duties of the job
You will be allocated a Supervising Consultant who will be responsible for ensuring that your training needs are being met and we also offer up to 10 days of study leave per annum to support your professional development. Our clinicians have a strong track record in education and training; locally, regionally and nationally, so they are able provide our clinical fellows with the skills and competencies to enrich your training within a complex surgical setting.
Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust a designated Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for Greater Manchester in partnership with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the Emergency General Surgery Service contributes to this. Salford Royal is a tertiary referral centre for intestinal failure, upper GI, and endocrine surgery, as well as providing general and colorectal surgery.
The successful candidate will take part in the Emergency General Surgical on call rotas currently a full-shift rota on a 1:10 basis.
