Job summary

Would you like to come to work within an innovative and evolving specialist nurse team within the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the existing Neuromuscular Specialist Nurse team within a new band 6 role.

The Neuromuscular team, comprising of specialist neurologists, nurses and other healthcare professionals, provides specialist and person-focused care to a large cohort of patients with a wide variety of neuromuscular conditions, including muscular dystrophies, inflammatory neuropathies and neuromuscular junction disorders. The specialist nursing team run a number of clinics, both alone and in conjunction with colleagues, and oversee management of treatments such as immunoglobulin therapy, intrathecal medications for spinal muscular atrophy, and immunosuppressant medications.

As a Neuromuscular Specialist Nurseyou will work as an integral member of the team, support senior specialist nurses with their caseload and contribute to the advice line and the blood monitoring service.

Main duties of the job

You will be professionally supervised and supported by highly specialist neuromuscular nurses and the neuromuscular consultants.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with patients, their families and other professional staff, delivering high quality care in a number of clinical settings.

You will take a lead role in supporting neuromuscular consultants with the Spinal Muscular Atrophy service and the delivery of related treatments.

You will support patients receiving immunosuppressant treatments for conditions such as myasthenia gravis and monitor their blood results to ensure safe and effective care, under the guidance of senior colleagues.

You will take a lead role in providing innovative Qutenza treatment for neuropathic pain within an outpatient setting.

Experience in clinical audit and data collection is desirable. You must be able to communicate effectively at all levels, have an understanding of managing your own caseload, demonstrate effective teamwork and participate in ongoing audit programmes.
