Job summary

As Directorate Manager for Frailty, Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine, you will work with the Directorate Clinical Director and Assistant Director of Nursing to lead the development and delivery of the Directorate performance within the Division of Medicine to deliver a high quality, patient focused service. This will be achieved through close working with the Divisional Management Team and triumvirate to ensure optimum and high level ongoing performance in line with corporate objectives and evidence based best practice.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Directorate team working with the Clinical Directors, Lead Nurses and others, you are responsible for leading the development of services within the Directorate to deliver a high quality patient focused service.

To work closely with the Divisional Management Team and Directorate Management Teams to ensure optimum and high level ongoing performance in line with corporate objectives and evidence based best practice.

As delegated by the Divisional Management Team, lead and deliver relevant projects of service development and improvement working across all Directorates within the Division.

Responsible for performance management, ensuring robust systems and processes are in place to support the effective monitoring of activity and finances.

Responsibility for the efficient and effective use of resources including development of robust recovery planning where deviation occurs.

Participation in the Senior Manager On-Call Rota duties as appropriate to the role.

Job responsibilities

Strategic service planning and delivery

Take responsibility for the production of service plans and the coordination and management of Directorate service developments.

Develop and set objectives and standards for the Directorate in accordance with overall divisional and CO service policies and strategies.

Performance and resource management

Be responsible for the effective management of the Directorates finances and physical resources.

Review and monitor the performance of specified areas within the Directorate to ensure CO requirements are met.

Identify and deliver Directorate contribution to Cost Improvement Programme (CIP)programmes whilst maintaining safe clinical standards and service delivery

Service Management

Design and implement appropriate structures for areas within the Directorate to deliver the re-design of services in line with the strategy for these services across the local health economy.

Develop and maintain close working relationships with colleagues in clinical professions, both internal and external, to ensure sharing of best practice.

Oversee and manage the organisation of medical staff at all levels to cover the needs of the service as well as the training needs of the doctors concerned.

Develop the prioritisation of equipment requirements for the Directorate.

Responsible for the delivery of out-patient activity within the Directorate.

Effectively influence service delivery providing leadership, advice and direction in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

Effectively implement service delivery and organisational changes recognising individual and organisational barriers.

Effectively communicate service re configurations and organisational changes recognising their potentially complicated and contentious nature.

Devise and implement innovative solutions to ensure seamless service provision across the health and social care economy.

Develop and implement operational policies, protocols and guidelines. Ensure they are understood and regularly updated and that they reflect developing practice and national and local policy and strategy.

Human Resource Management

Line manage designated staff with responsibility for carrying out all HRM policies and procedures as appropriate

Work closely with the Clinical Director and Lead nurse in resolving complex and sensitive HR issues within the Directorate.

Managing services/change management

Promote innovative developments in patient/client centred services in line with service objectives of the Division and the COs strategic direction.

Responsible for the implementation and interpretation of national and local policy.

Responsible for driving the change management process forward within the Directorate.

Liaise closely with relevant management levels at all stages of the reconfiguration process to facilitate effective communication and understanding.

Education, Training, Research and Development

Take joint responsibility with the Assistant Directors of Nursing and clinical directors for the on-going professional development and PDR process of staff within the Directorate.

Safeguarding vulnerable people ( Children/Adults)

All employees have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable people (children and adults). They must be aware of child and adult protection procedures and who to contact within the CO for further guidance. All employees are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.

DBS Disclosure checks are carried out for all new appointments who have access to children or vulnerable adults or other positions of trust which are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
