Job summary
Care Group A (PACE Care Group [Perioperative, Anaesthetics, Critical and Elective] is currently recruiting an Operations Manager for Sterile services Department to work alongside specialties to ensure the provision of a flexible and responsive service which meets the needs of service users.
This role will involve supporting the delivery of operational performance as well as ensuring continuous quality improvement, working collaboratively with Sterile Services across Norfolk & Waveney University Hospitals Group.
Main duties of the job
As Operational Manager for Sterile Services, you will lead the day to day operational management of the Trust's Central Sterile Services Department, ensuring the safe, effective and compliant decontamination of medical devices in line with national standards and regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for service performance, quality assurance and risk management, maintaining robust quality systems, audit processes and full equipment traceability. Working closely with clinical teams, Infection Prevention & Control, Microbiology, Procurement and external partners, you will provide expert advice on decontamination processes and support service development across the Trust.
You will lead and develop a skilled workforce, overseeing recruitment, performance management, training and staff wellbeing, and fostering a positive, inclusive and high performing team culture. You will manage departmental budgets, monitor key performance indicators, identify efficiencies and contribute to business and capacity planning to ensure services remain responsive and sustainable.
You will act as a visible leader and role model, demonstrating the Trust's PRIDE values and a strong commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and equality, diversity and inclusion.

- To be responsible for the provision of high standards of service to the service user from the Decontamination services Department in line with Trust policy and service level agreements.
- To be responsible for delivering any existing external contracts and support development other external income opportunities.
- To maintain and develop effective quality control procedures within Decontamination Services to ISO 13485:2016 and Medical Devices Regulations (MDR)
- To input into and review the Trust Decontamination Policy in conjunction with the Consultant Microbiologist, Infection Prevention & Control Senior Team and other professionals, and report as required into the NNUH Decontamination committee.
- To develop, promote and maintain effective risk management protocols which ensure the provision of a safe service and environment.
- To maintain and develop good inter-departmental relationships with other Department managers including Theatres, Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C), Microbiologists and procurement, communicating through regular contact and forums, as well as maintaining close liaison with external customers.
- To provide technical advice from a decontamination, sterilisation and processing perspective to users with regards to the purchase of new theatre instrumentation.
- To develop the service and infrastructure in line with Trust, Care Group and personal objectives.
- To produce service KPIs and take appropriate action where performance levels fall below the required standard.
