Job summary
AMU is a varied, fast-paced, dynamic Emergency Assessment Unit for Medicine. We have a high turnover of patients as we take our own direct emergency admissions from GPs, clinics and A&E. We assess and admit patients from nine medical specialties including general medicine, respiratory, cardiology, oncology and gastroenterology and are committed to providing the highest standard of care for our patients. AMU is divided into four parts a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) clinic and 3 main inpatient areas (AMUH, AMUI and AMUK)
The unit is continually evolving and as a team we are always looking for new initiatives to improve and enhance our patient's experience. We are a friendly, cohesive team and pride ourselves on our excellent assessment skills, allowing us to initiate specialised individual treatment plans and providing initial front line emergency care. Main duties of the job
Your role as Ward Manager is to support and continue to develop the team alongside the other ward managers Kathleen, Laura, and Sarah, as well as our clinical educator Joyce. Collectively we ensure the smooth running of the unit, supporting all our staff and patients. This post is an excellent opportunity for somebody wishing to further their nursing career and develop their leadership skills.
The Post holder will work along side their peers in supporting AMUK/ SDEC PAU and AMUI , providing professional leadership and management within the work environment. The post holder will be accountable and responsible for the standards of care provided within the ward/department and for leading, supporting and implementing innovative practice. They will provide direct patient care, demonstrating specialist knowledge and act as a resource and role model for the clinical team. This post is unique as the postholder will have the opportunity to support and facilitate the unit and department teams in ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are continuously measured and improved. The post holder will work in liaison with other Senior Nurses/Department Managers and the Assistant Director of Nursing to implement Directorate/Divisional service plans.
