Job summary

This a replacement post in response to Service need.

This is a Senior Clinical Fellow post for a fixed-term period of 6 months.

The successful candidate will work at ST3+ level and receive training in the full breadth of vascular surgery. Access to training opportunities will be equivalent to UK trainees.

A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job

The timetable will depend on the applicant's abilities, but would be for 10 sessions. A typical week can include the following duties:

There is a 1:6 on-call commitment. The on-call period is for 24 hours weekdays and 48 hours weekends.. You will be resident in the hospital from 07:30 to 19:30 and non-resident from 19:30 to 07:30. An on-call room will be provided if required. There is a day of compensatory rest after a weekday on-call and 2 days of compensatory rest after a weekend on-call.

Vascular fellows are expected to competently assess vascular patients in outpatient clinics and discuss management plans with consultant where applicable.

  • Full registration with the GMC and with Licence to Practise
  • Basic medical qualification (MB BS or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Attendance at relevant courses, e.g. ATLS, Basic Surgical Skills or equivalent, CCrlSP

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years in vascular surgery at CT/ST level or equivalent
  • Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.
  • Training and expertise in children's safeguarding

Desirable

  • Independent competence at major amputations, endovenous ablation techniques and AV fistula formation
  • Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest
  • Evidence of relevant academic & research achievements, e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, publications, presentations, other achievements
