Job summary

Weybourne Day Unit is a nurse-led unit with multi-disciplinary support, comprising 27 chairs treating Oncology and Haematology patients with Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments during the hours of 8am to 6pm six days per week.

This is a fast paced environment with approximately 80 patients seen each day as well as our Mobile Cancer Care Unit going to four locations across Norfolk each week.

Main duties of the job

To be competent in cannulation and venepuncture, administration of intravenous medication and the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy.

To provide education, advice and clinical support to all members of the multi-disciplinary team in the care of patients who require intravenous access, intravenous medication, oral or parenteral cytotoxic chemotherapy, and patients with central lines.

To participate in the role of planning new patients chemotherapy treatments and to pre-assess subsequent chemotherapy patients through the Nurse Led Chemotherapy Teleclinic. This will involve deciding about a patient's fitness to continue their treatment, by using departmental guidelines and assessment tools, and offering advice and support regarding any side effects and their management.
