Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a conscientious, enthusiastic, highly motivated and organised Typist/Clerical officer to join the Gastroenterology Department.

Our Gastroenterology department is split up into sub-specialties; Hepatology/Pancreatic; Nutrition; Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

We operate outpatient clinics, inpatient endoscopy and outpatient endoscopy and have an allocated gastroenterology ward (Guist) for patients.

We have consultants, registrars, IBD specialist nurses, Liver specialist nurses and Nutrition specialist nurses along with Upper and Lower Cancer specialist nurses

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and versatile individual to join the Trust as a Typist/Clerical Officer within the Gastroenterology Department.

Daily duties will consist of typing clinic/patient result letters, updating PAS, sending patient notes to be scanned and general administrative duties within the office.

  • Type patient letters relating to clinics in accurate and timely manner and be able to prioritise workload with the support from the Medical Secretaries/Admin manager
  • Locate, request and track hospital notes to the department and Health Records Library and file results and correspondence appropriately.
  • Communicate electronically with secretaries regarding actions to be outcomed from typing to ensure 18 week targets are met.
  • Update RTT in accordance with Trust guidelines. Assist the Administration and Clerical team with data management utilising PAS and other departmental patient databases.
  • Work in line with department guidelines and policies, and offer suggestions for improvements to procedures/policies to support the continual development of the service.
  • Maintain Administration Procedures for departmental practices, to ensure colleagues can cover workload in absence and offer suggestion at regular team meeting for improvements in working practices.
