14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship
We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship qualification within the duration of the placement
Working as part of the Emergency Surgical Assessment team you would be integral to the care the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provide to its patients. EAUS is a complex environment, treating patients with a wide range of conditions. You would be working as part of the front of house team, taking calls, directing patients, using your IT knowledge and excellent decision-making skills to help the clinical team deliver our hospital's PRIDE values. EAUS is always an exceptionally busy and fast paced environment.
Main duties of the job
To work with all members of the clinical team within the multidisciplinary framework. The Ward Clerical Officer is an essential part of the team, helping to streamline the work of the unit, support and help all members of the team to provide a quality service.
Eligibility Criteria:All applicants must be: o Aged 16+o Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive yearso Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or aboveo Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeshipQualifications and Skills Required:o Good general standard of educationo 4 GCSE's at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent)o Good standard of literacy and numeracyo Good communication and interpersonal skillso Good IT skills

- To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
- To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department, to maintain and update ward management
- To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
- To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
- To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.
- To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for clinical work.
- To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the Department.
- To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the Department.
- To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate.
- To liaise with secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessary to ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patient attending an Out-patient Clinic. Liaise with external stakeholders to obtain referrals if necessary.
