Locum Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology

The Trust seeks to appoint a Locum consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General medicine. The post would be suitable for a candidate wishing to work 10 programmed activities (PA) to begin with and this opportunity has arisen due to change in existing job plans. The intended locum would be for 12-18 months progressing to a substantive post.

A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job

Within the department, there are multiple areas of development being undertaken. One of which is a well-established Insulin Pump Service which has been recently commissioned to increase its provision of pumps available to be started per year. In addition, the Department has also been successful in it's application to become a Young Person with Diabetes Pilot Site whereby a new and dedicated service, clinical pathway and accompanying expansion in establishment has recently launched. The department was also successful in being awarded funding to set up and operate a Disordered Eating Service which is in the process of commencement. Lastly, there is a highly prestigious Multidisciplinary Medical and Vascular Foot Service, having won a QIC Award, with Vascular, Orthopaedic, Diabetes, Podiatry and Amputation Nurse Specialist involvement. The Diabetes Team also specialise in operating a Cystic Fibrosis service, in addition to a Monogenic Diabetes Service. The Endocrine department is nationally acclaimed, having received Paget's Association Centre of Excellence status and is commissioned as a regional specialist centre for calcium and metabolic bone disorders. We are also the tertiary referral centre for adrenal service and are supported by an enthusiastic Endocrine nurse team.

The successful applicants will be encouraged to work with the existing team to provide support within these supportive and progressive areas of service.

  • Full registration with GMC and License to Practice
  • On or eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Medicine via; oCCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) oCESR or oEuropean Community Rights oAn appropriate higher qualification.

Desirable

  • Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.
