Senior Physiotherapist - Respiratory

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and clinically driven Senior Physiotherapist to provide advanced physiotherapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning for our patients within our General Medicine and Cardiology services.

Although you will be based in the above area you will work within the respiratory physiotherapy team who work across Surgery, Respiratory Medicine and Critical Care. The post holder will be expected to cross cover as required and as such a broad range of acute experience post qualification on rotations is necessary. We are a very busy team and work with some of the most acutely unwell patients in the hospital and as such you will need proven clinical skills with these patients including working oncall and weekends.

The general medicine area requires a physiotherapist who is willing to work within the MDT to develop this area and to engage our more junior colleagues in the benefits of rotating into this area. You will work with a diverse caseload of patients who may have respiratory, neurological and complex medical and frailty presentations. Our general medicine specialty covers several wards and includes patients with liver, gastroenterology and endocrinology problems. We are also seeing increasing numbers of patients with eating disorders and as such an interest in these areas would be of benefit.

Main duties of the job

As a static member of the respiratory team alongside the clinical lead and the other Band 7 Physiotherapists you would take a key role in developing the services we clinically offer and also supporting the wider Physiotherapy department to ensure our junior staff a supported onto the oncall and weekend rotas and can maintain these skills.

You would support supervision of junior staff, assistant staff and students, take part in and develop in house teaching programs including departmental respiratory induction. We have good links with University of East Anglia and there is an established program of teaching to both the MSc and BSc courses as associate lecturers.

Main Duties:

  • Provide high quality Physiotherapy care to patients requiring care within the critical care environment.
  • Ability to independently assess and manage a caseload of patients with complex respiratory care needs.
  • Effective communication skills, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of best practice guidelines.
  • Strong clinical decision making.
  • Teaching and supervision skills.

The successful candidate will take part in running the post MI clinics and also in the cardiac rehabilitation class.
