Subspecialty Trainee in Maternal/Fetal medicine

Job summary

Applications are invited for a Speciality Trainee in maternal and fetal medicine. The post will be based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, although you will be expected to work at any of the Trust's sites.

The post is fixed term for 3 years.

Main duties of the job

This is an RCOG accredited subspecialty training post in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, with the dedicated training time required for this. The post is suited to a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in becoming a Maternal and Fetal Medicine Subspecialist.This post involves working a full Obstetrics and Gynaecology on call (1:9).

About us

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services through the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (1,000 beds) and Cromer and District Hospital, including more specialist services such as oncology and radiotherapy, neonatology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, paediatric medicine and surgery.

Clinical Training and Experience

Essential

  • O & G experience in a Registrar post for at least 3 years

Desirable

  • UK experience in Senior Registrar level (3rd tier resident)

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the GMC and with Licence to Practise
  • Basic medical qualification (MB BS or equivalent)
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • Registered for with significant progression in ATSM or SITM in fetal and/or maternal medicine or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Post-graduate degree (MD, PhD) or post-graduate fellowship experience.
  • Research experience as principle investigator (PI)
  • Research presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Ability

Essential

  • Exhibits and has references acknowledging ability and skills commensurate with experience stated above and with career goals, and should include skills in dealing with specific situations (e.g. handling Obstetric emergencies appropriately, counselling and treating upset patients and their relatives). References must demonstrate training progress.
  • Communication skills - to be clear, fluent and articulate in communication in English.
  • Competence at basic and intermediate level of obstetric ultrasound.
  • Is able to work without direct supervision, but also clearly knows when it is appropriate to seek help.
