This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pain Management team within the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

The Pain team is a dynamic and friendly large multi-disciplinary team. There are currently 4 part-time Clinical Psychologists and 1 Assistant Psychologist within the Pain team, and we are recruiting to a 0.58 WTE Clinical Psychology role. Clinical Psychology is respected and valued within the team, and there are several multi-disciplinary groups offered to our patients, in which psychology plays a key role. There is a strong developmental focus within the team and the successful candidate will be supported to develop their skills and clinical interests within the needs of the service.

We would appoint newly qualified staff on a Band 7, and candidates with at least 18 months experience would be appointed at a Band 8A.

Main duties of the job

The role includes a combination of individual assessment appointments and individual treatment appointments, in addition to multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary group sessions. The main treatment model used within the service is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy alongside trauma focused therapies including EMDR and specialist group supervision is available as required alongside regular clinical supervision within the service. There will be the opportunity to get involved in service development, and to shape the psychology provision within the clinic.

Research is encouraged and you will be supported to consider research projects.

The post is based at Adelaide Street Health Centre which has onsite parking available for staff. In addition to duties within clinics, the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of Clinical Psychology across the Trust, and there may be occasions when it will be necessary to attend meetings at the main NNUH site on Colney Lane.

Part time: 21.75 hrs per week

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To be responsible for providing a highly specialist systematic and autonomous clinical psychology service, within the specialist area, in accordance with objectives agreed with service and professional managers. The post will require independent management of caseload and provision of a psychology service with appropriate supervision and professional management, as per BPS guidelines. To provide a clinical service to other specialties, in order to back-fill any supervision and management time, as agreed with the Service Manager for Clinical Psychology.
  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the specialist teams based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of highly complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the patients care. The post will require manipulation of highly specialist equipment for neuropsychological and psychometric assessments of ability and performance. Assessments will also require the systematic observation, recording, analysis and interpretation of complex visual material.
  • To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and management for clients in the service and their families with accompanying psychological difficulties, including clients with highly complex clinical presentations and histories. Treatment to be based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence based methods.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for adults, children, carers, families and groups (where appropriate) within and across settings employed individually and systemically, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
