Clinical Nurse Specialist - Rheumatology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake a lead role of Rheumatology Specialist Nurse in an outpatient service. The post requires a motivated individual to work 37.5 hours a week within the rheumatology team employed by NNUH

To provide clinical leadership and expertise in rheumatology speciality by providing information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers, and to act as a resource to the multi-professional team. To participate in the co-ordination of patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patient's care pathway. To be pivotal in review and development of the rheumatology service, and to reflect the needs of the patient group

Main duties of the job

To lead on the delivery of outpatient Rheumatology Specialist Nursing care within the hospital, providing clinical leadership and support, development of nurse led protocols / guidelines and nurse led initiatives

To develop and lead in the collection of relevant audit data to facilitate quality improvement, service development and national requirement

Provide essential education for patients with Rheumatology Disease

Participate in and work with local teams and ICB to develop the rheumatology service to deliver a high standard of evidence-based care

  • To contribute toward divisional, Trust and corporate objectives and service plans.
  • To plan, develop, formulate and review nurse-led protocols and Patient Group Directions specific to the service and update as required in liaison with others
  • To assist in the development of business plans to extend existing service as appropriate. To advise the senior team of the nursing implications of any service development.
  • To monitor and measure performance against national standards of care such as NSF and NICE guidance
  • To ensure local policies reflect national standards required by the Healthcare Commissions performance indicators and the strategic aims of the Trust.

  • To identify areas where change in practice could provide benefit to patients and to recommend and assist in the implementation of change.
  • To deputise for senior colleagues in their absence as required
