Applications are invited for this fixed term appointment. This post will hold the salary equivalent to Training grades ST6-8 and is fixed term for 12 months.
This post is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but will include duties with hub and spoke activity at nearby trusts, including the James Paget University Hospital, and the Queen Elizabeth Kings Lynn Trust.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job
In-patient careThe Spine Fellow (SF) will be responsible to the five consultants in spine surgery and for maintaining continuity of in-patient care on the spine surgery unit. They will be expected to be actively involved with the care of spinal in-patients and together with the Spinal Registrars, to supervise and support the Nurse Practitioners on the firm. They will also be expected to do weekends on call for general trauma on a 1: 4 rota, if required (there is additional remuneration available for this).OutpatientsThe SF will attend the outpatient clinics and operating lists of the spinal consultants detailed on the job plan below.James Paget Hospital, GorlestonThe SF will attend clinic and operating sessions at James Paget Hospital in Gorleston approximately every second Thursday. There will also be a commitment with the services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn at a similar frequency, yet to be established.EducationalIt is expected that the SF will be actively involved in teaching spinal surgery to the junior medical staff in the orthopaedic department. Together with the spine firm registrar, he/she will organise the spine firm's contribution to the departmental teaching programme and the FRCS (Orth) courses.

- FRCS (Tr & Orth) / FRCS (Neurosurgery) or equivalent.
- Basic medical qualification (MB BS or equivalent)
- Compliant with Trust Child Safeguarding training requirements (within one month of taking up post)

- Full registration with GMC with Licence to Practice [CCT or CESR], at the time of commencing the post
