These are substantive appointments for Junior Clinical Fellow positions within Older People's Medicine department (OPM). These posts are in Geriatric medicine working in our wards/clinics covering a broad range of subspecialties within the care of the older person including ortho-geriatrics, short stay, dementia, delirium and acute illness.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is recruiting Doctors with a passion for caring for Older People. Our Older People's Emergency Department (OPED) provides Emergency treatment to people of 80 years and over, providing fast and efficient care in a specially designed environment, supported by a wealth of experts in Older People's medicine. In addition, we provide a dynamic outpatient service to help avoid unnecessary admissions to the acute setting.
This can be very flexible
The basic full-time hours would be 0900-1700 Monday to Friday (40 hours). Any applicant can choose to work the same pattern of our IMT1s instead (nights, weekends, evening on a rotational basis) which would mean compensatory days off in the week (as per junior doctors contract 2016) and enhanced pay for unsociable hours if they wish, or we would be flexible to requests for Less than full time working as long as this is compatible with the other workers
Main duties of the job
- Work across the OPM wards, OPM outpatients, OPM admissions to AMU and hospital at night shifts
- Ensure patients are assessed and reviewed on the OPM wards, which may be part of the consultant ward round or may be an individual ward round.
- Communicate with patients' relatives.
- Supervise more junior medical colleagues.
- Keep accurate patient records as required; these must be dated, timed and signed off appropriately and be easily identifiable.
- Produce timely discharge letters, with accurate and comprehensive diagnoses, and supervise their production by more junior colleagues.
- Participate in the management of occasional emergencies and in unforeseen circumstances at the request of an appropriate Consultant.
- Agree to read and follow medical guidelines and policies.
- Take part in Clinical Governance activity, including Clinical Audit
- Attend training and education sessions, regularly in the department.
