Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver strong leadership in nursing to transform the health and care of patients and communities through a fast-changing national Genomic Medicine Service.

The Nursing Lead will be supported by the Chief Nurse(s) of the East GMSA, be part of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Leadership Team and will provide clinical leadership for the delivery of national and local nursing activities including:

Nurse-led transformation projects (local or part of the national Nursing & Midwifery Collaborative (attended by all 7 GMSAs)

Building capacity and capability across the nursing including the identification of essential skill sets and competencies for the embedding of genomic medicine as part of baseline reviews

Large-scale change including embedding genomics into workforce plans and establishing a network of nursing genomic champions across the East of England and East Midlands.

The East GMSA is an Alliance Partnership between Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership, experience, and expertise in genomics by working in cohesion and collaboration with all GMSA NMW leads and NMW at the GU in NHS England in order to identify, test and implement improvements in clinical practice to support the embedding of the Genomic Medicine Service across the East

Lead and embed East GMSA Nursing Network, including the identification and development of regional genomic champions in nursing through education and training

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Leadership Team to deliver local and national priorities including equitable access to genomic testing and supporting the nursing workforce use genomics safely, effectively and efficiently

Participate in the development of the East GMSA strategy and business plan, ensuring nursing forms an integral part of the Genomic Medicine Service's future

Develop innovative strategies to guide and coach nursing teams in developing and strengthening leadership skills in genomics

Lead on the development of and be accountable for projects/improvement strategies including research and development to identify, develop and promote best practice

Help identify and understand the touchpoints where education and training is needed across the geography, improving the education and capability of the nursing workforce in genomics.

The East GMSA is an Alliance Partnership between Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. While recruitment for this role is being coordinated by CUH, the successful candidate will be employed by and located at the nearest NHS Trust Alliance Partner within the East GMSA.
