Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital

Psychological Therapist

Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist or Psychological Therapist, to provide a psychology service to the Cystic Fibrosis multi-disciplinary team at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital. The previous Clinical Psychology post-holders have worked hard to establish a role for psychology which both meets the clinical needs of the population and the CF team.

The Cystic Fibrosis service is based in Respiratory Medicine at NNUH, with a small well-established multi-discilplinary team. You would be the sole psychology clinician, aiming to develop the psychology input to the team, and to carry out individual assessments and ongoing therapeutic input with inpatients and outpatients.

You will join a small team of Clinical Psychologists working in the Trust, in both adult and paediatric specialities, and there are opportunities for peer supervision/ support in addition to joint working with psychologists based in other departments. You will be supervised by an experienced Clinical Psychologist within the Trust.

There is a possibility that the psychology provision to this service will increase in future in line with growth of the size of the local CF population.

We currently have some other vacant roles within psychology at NNUH and these Cystic Fibrosis hours could be paired with other vacancies to form a larger post or a full-time post. Please get in contact with us if you would like to consider options.

Main duties of the job

The role includes offering 1:1 therapy in an outpatient and inpatient setting, as well as attending a multidisciplinary clinic and completing an annual psychology review with each patient as part of the national standards of care for Cystic Fibrosis. There are opportunities for offering consultancy, teaching and involvement in research.

The post holder will liaise with the paediatric CF team in order to support the transition of patients from paediatrics to adult services and liaise with wider teams involved in patient care as appropriate. There is an active and supportive group of psychologists working in this clinical specialism via the UK Psychosocial Professionals in Cystic Fibrosis.

We would be willing to consider applications from applicants with experience in health psychology settings, and also those who haven't had health psychology experience. Newly qualified staff would be appointed at a Band 6 prior to registration with HCPC or BABCP, and at Band 7 following registration.

We want to become a more diverse and inclusive department, therefore we welcome and actively encourage applications from candidates from a broad range of backgrounds, with different lived and learned experiences.
