The Research and Development department at NNUH is growing and this includes the Norwich Research Park (NRP) Biorepository (Tissue Bank) - a central component in facilitating and supporting world leading research. We support researchers at institutes across the NRP, including the Quadram Institute and the University of East Anglia, and national and international partners. The Norwich Research Park Biorepository is an invaluable resource for clinical research. It is a resources of human tissue samples, provided by consenting patients, for studies into the causes and treatments of diseases.

Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a friendly and enthusiastic person to join the Norwich Research Park Biorepository team. The role involves working alongside clinicians and nurses to support a wide variety of research projects at the NNUH, including our work as one of four of the Breast Cancer Now's Tissue Bank Centres.
You will work with the multidisciplinary clinical teams within the NNUH to consent patients and assist in specimen collections. We are therefore looking for a person with excellent communication skills who can carry out the role with kindness, compassion and enthusiasm. This role requires strong attention to detail, good IT skills and the ability to work independently. It is expected that you will have an organized and methodical approach to your work, always ensuring the highest level of confidentiality. You will contribute to the writing and development of departmental Standard Operating Procedures and audits. A good working knowledge of the use of Human Tissue in research and the Human Tissue Act would be advantageous.
Along with the Biorepository team, you will also help with the day to day running of the department and supporting junior team members, working effectively to support research teams across the Norwich Research Park.
There is an opportunity to develop your laboratory skills, and, although previous experience is desirable, full training in all aspects of the job will be provided in house in accordance with the department training policy.

Job responsibilities
- The post holder will liaise with clinicians, surgeons, research nurses pathologists and laboratory staff to identify and coordinate sample collection.
- The post holder will ensure that the principles of the Human Tissue Act (HTA) and GCP are upheld at all times and that all samples collected have appropriate patient consent.
- Meet face-to-face with potential participants to gain consent as required
- The post holder will ensure that the integrity of a sample in their care is maintained and the sample transported to the biorepository facility in a timely fashion.
- To collate detailed medical history and clinical details as required by individual studies and clinical trials
- To maintain highly accurate logs of samples, and paper trails of the movement of pathological samples in and out of the biorepository
- Operate and train students in the operation of laboratory equipment where necessary
- Assist in the smooth running of the laboratories including general housekeeping duties such as defrosting freezers and hazardous waste disposal (including biological and chemical waste)
