Job summary

The vibrant Jenny Lind Children's Hospital incorporates Children's Inpatient, Ambulatory, Emergency and Outpatient care. We treat children and young people across a broad range of specialties including Paediatric Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, plastics, and gastroenterology and offer care to children living in Norfolk and for those accessing specialist treatment across the Eastern Region.

Our Children's Emergency nursing service has an exciting and rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated senior paediatric nurse with a passion for delivering excellent patient care and leadership direction to join their dedicated and friendly team.

Main duties of the job

  • To Provide nursing leadership and management of the ChED department. Ensure a high standard of research-based nursing practice delivering patient care.
  • To participate in the teaching programme of the department
  • To work as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner or be willing to undertake training
  • To oversee day to day staffing of ChED and off duty.
  • To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence.

  • Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code and work within limits of competence
  • Maintain a high standard of nursing care by acting as a professional Role Model to others adopting the ED Philosophy of nursing in his/her clinical practice.
  • Implement effective assessment and delegation of workload to more junior members of staff ensuring that their duties are carried out efficiently and competently.
  • To be responsible for and supervise the assessment planning and implementation of individual care needs of the patient and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Responsible for the continuity of care between shifts by efficient planning of duty rota and ensuring adequate reporting arrangements on a day to day basis.
  • In the absence of the Childrens ED Matron, take responsibility for the day to day operational management of the ChED in order to meet the patients needs and those of the organisation, implementing appropriate action at times of staff shortage.
  • Act up to provide cover in the absence of the Childrens ED Matron.
  • To assist Childrens ED Matron in creating an environment which will facilitate a regular exchange of ideas in order to assist change.
  • Within the aims and requirements of the Childrens ED department, organise and facilitate Professional Development within mentor group.

  • One of the following: EPALS/APLS,
