In addition to a large programme of lung, pleural and mediastinal surgery (both open and thoracoscopic) the department undertakes a small amount of ENT surgery in conjunction with the ENT Surgeons. Over the last few years, total departmental throughput has equated to approximately 600 major procedures annually. In addition to this elective work, all thoracic trauma is admitted to the thoracic surgical unit. The department recently developed programme for rib fixation for chest trauma and the unit has fully established robotic thoracic programme.
